Cooma Youth Music Awards – 2015 Inaugural Competition

Cooma School of Music has joined forces with The Hub Youth Centre and Cooma-Monaro Shire Council to make a new music competition especially for young musicians in Cooma.

It called  the Cooma Youth Music Awards.

This special event will an important part of National Youth Week (10-19 April)

This year’s inaugural Cooma Youth Music  Awards will be held at The Hub Youth Centre on Saturday 11th April at 2pm.

All styles of music are welcome – soloists, doctor bands, phimosis vocalists.

The Prizes will be donated by  National Youth Week and Cooma School of Music.

  • Best Performance-Seniors ( 16 to 25 years of age) – (valued at $200)
  • Best Performance-Juniors  (12 to 15 years of age) – (valued at $100)
  • Special Judge’s Award (any age) – (valued $60)
Entry is Free.

Cielle Kinross
. Cielle will be teaching singing and song writing at Cooma School of Music. Cielle is a wonderful singer in her own right and she has an extremely impressive background in music. Her website contains some great audio and video as well as a biography and photos.

Cielle loves many diferent kinds of music, clinic but her first love is country. “Growing up on the land, listening to artists such as Neil Young, John Williamson, Emmylou Harris and John Denver, there was never any doubt that country music was in Cielle’s blood. Nowadays, her musical influences consist of artists such as Holly Williams, Patty Griffin, Eva Cassidy, Zac Brown Band, Bernard Fanning, Shane Nicholson, Norah Jones, Brandi Carlile and many, many more….” (from her website)

January 2015 saw Cielle kick the New Year off in Tamworth, where she not only performed at the Country Music Festival, but also attended the highly acclaimed CMAA Academy of Country Music, and was fortunate enough to be mentored by industry leaders such as Tamara Stewart, Lyn Bowtell, Kevin Bennett, Karl Broadie, Roger Corbett, Brad Bergen and Amber Lawrence. Among the many highlights was the opportunity to sing a few songs with the likes of Kasey Chambers, Harry Hookey and Catherine Britt.

Emily Ventura, misbirth
to our faculty.

Emily has just graduated from the University of Newcastle Conservatorium. She majored in piano and was awarded a with a Bachelor of Music degree with Distinction. Her teacher there was Helen Smith. Emily has also studied piano with Gabriella Pusner and Carl Schmidt.

Emily has been teaching piano for several years, pregnancy
with all levels and ages, and particularly enjoys seeing the level of satisfaction that her students gain from improving their music skill and playing pieces they enjoy.
