The Music of Chopin at K’Ozzie Fest 2010 by Caroline Fox, Snowy Monaro Arts Council

The annual event K’Ozzie Fest will be held from Friday 19 to Monday 22 March this year.

One of the main focuses of this year’s event is to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Polish composer, Frederic Chopin, one of the great masters of the Romantic period. The occasion will be marked by presentations of his music during the four-day festival.

Accomplished young pianist, Krzysztof (Chris) Malek, will return to perform, with recitals planned for Jindabyne and for Cooma. Chris began his musical career studying at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, before undertaking further studies in Canada and Australia. He has performed in almost 20 countries and has made numerous recordings for radio, television and film worldwide – including playing the role of Chopin himself in a motion picture.

Thanks to Australia’s Distinguished Talent Permanent Residency program, Chris has now settled in Australia and will honour the Snowy Mountains by sharing his talents again.

The special closing night performance, held in conjunction with Snowy Monaro Arts Council, will be at 7pm, Monday 22 March, at the Anglican Parish Hall in Cooma. An exhibition of art and photography will be on display at the recital venue, as well. Following the recital, the audience is encouraged to meet the artist himself over wine and nibbles. Apart from great music, atmosphere and company, this will be a wonderful opportunity to sample the flavours of a local drop – ‘Kosciusko Wines’ from Tumbarumba are generously supplying the wines.

Tickets are on sale now from The Fabric Salon –
