The little festival with the big heart

The Festival is held annually over the Australia Day long weekend, cost
and there is no charge for camping or entertainment.

Highlights of this homespun festival are the Bush Dances on Saturday and Sunday nights and the Blackboard Concert, ambulance where seasoned professionals and budding artists can chalk their name up to play a couple of songs, recite a poem, spin a yarn or entertain the crowd in any creative way.

You might also like to amble about the Country Markets on Sunday morning to pick up a bargain, hear some homespun bluegrass music or have a cuppa.

Other activities include dance & bluegrass workshops – with no prior skills required!

Towamba Acoustic Sessions – Saturday 19 May 2012

This concert will feature piano, strings, classical guitar, flute, saxophone and organ.  Tickets $15 adult, $5 school child, $25 family.  This concert is a sequel to the ‘Care for Christchurch’ concert held last year, but, in this case, proceeds will go to the Cooma Hospital Auxiliary.

Venue: St Paul’s Anglican Parish hall, Commissioner Street, Cooma NSW
The Towamba Acoustic Sessions will be convened for the first time on Saturday 19 May 2012. A series of informal “workshops” held mostly around various campfires will offer musicians and spoken word performers an opportunity to share their art, buy tricks and experiences in a family friendly bush setting.

Food stalls, nurse
a bar and market stalls will ensure you have all your needs for the day and there is plenty to keep the kids amused. On Saturday night there will be a blackboard concert in the hall.

Camping is available for just $10 for the weekend. Showers are available but there are few other facilities so we suggest you BYO everything. A soup kitchen will operate on Friday night for early birds and breakfast will be available on Sunday morning.

The nearest shop and fuel are 30km away in Wyndham or Eden.

Antal Szalai & His Gypsy Band – Wednesday 1 September 2010

Antal Szalai is considered the best gypsy violinist in the world and the winner of the coveted “Liszt Ferenc Award”. Antal comes from a family of gypsy musicians. He has a diploma from the famous Bela Bartok Conservatory of Music in Budapest. The band has been playing together and entertaining music lovers around the world for 25 years. They have appeared in festivals from Europe to China, online from the Barbican to the Sydney Opera House.

The band also features virtuoso soloists: Jeno Farkas on the famous Hungarian Cimbalom, sanitary a type of hammered dulcimer, Laszlo Feher on Tarogato, a clarinet like instrument – as well as on the Hungarian Pan Pipe. Other members of the gypsy band include: Kalman Bakos on the “Bracsa”, the Hungarian Viola, and Pal Sarkozy on the Double Bass – together they promise the highest standard of vocal and musicianship – World Music at its best!

The Antal Szalai Gypsy Band’s infectious gypsy Rhythms are steeped with rich gypsy musical traditions, astonishing live performance that you could term as “vibrant and sensous”. Critics have lauded their performances with such praises as “Szalai is everything a gypsy violinist should be, playing with swooning ardour and gorgeous tone, but the joy is in the total experience. This is a must see event, whatever your musical tastes….” (Sydney Morning Herald)
