Internationally Renowned Guitar Duo to Perform in Cooma

The venue is the historic St Paul’s Anglican Parish Hall, 136 Commissioner Street. This Cooma concert will be the last concert in their Australia-wide tour – fifteen concerts performed in five states plus the ACT.

The Australian Guitar Duo consists of Rupert Boyd and Jacob Cordover. They have given performances throughout the world, including at the New York Guitar Duo Festival in New York City, Barcelona Guitar Festival in Spain, Festival de Musique Classique in France, Strings-139 Festival in China, Music by the Sea in Canada, and in every state and territory in mainland Australia.

Australian Guitar Duo have been delighting audiences throughout the world, performing a mixture of new and exciting Australian compositions as well as classic works from the guitar duo repertoire. During this year’s Australian tour they will perform a wide range of works for two guitars, from the Baroque to Contemporary, and will feature compositions and arrangements by Silvius Leopold Weiss, Mauro Giuliani, Maurice Ravel, Ross Edwards, Pixinguinha and Joaquin Rodrigo. This repertoire will form the basis of a new CD that they plan to record in 2015, and is sure to please a wide audience, from the connoisseur of classical music to anyone who loves music or the guitar.

Rupert Boyd and Jacob Cordover are both respected soloists in their own right. They met and formed as a duo in the year 2000 while studying at the Australian National University School of Music, under renowned Australian guitarist Timothy Kain.

which was met with such critical acclaim as “wonderfully entertaining” by Classical Guitar Magazine (UK), “superb” by Limelight Magazine, and “a fine recording sure to please the most demanding listeners …technical masters who also possess beautiful tone, and a wonderfully refined collective musical sense” by Minor 7thSoundboard, the quarterly publication of Guitar Foundation of America.

A truly international ensemble, Mr. Boyd and Mr. Cordover live in New York City and Barcelona respectively but meet on a regular basis to perform concerts throughout the world.

The Australian Guitar Duo last toured Australia in 2012, and has since given performances in China, the Philippines, New York, Spain, aboard Queen Mary 2, and most recently Vancouver Island in Canada.

About Jacob:

Currently residing in Barcelona, Australian classical guitarist Jacob Cordover enjoys a truly international career. His “consummate artistry” (Adelaide Advertiser, Australia) has enticed audiences in over a dozen countries across four continents.

Following the success of the Australian Guitar Duo’s National Tour last year, Jacob will return to Australia again this May, this time for his first solo tour in three years. Jacob will perform a range of music that reflects his varied musical and personal background and his concerts will include Australian compositions alongside Spanish masterpieces as well as standard works from the classical guitar repertoire.

Since completing his undergraduate studies with renowned performer and pedagogue Timothy Kain at the ANU School of Music, Jacob has undertaken post graduate studies in Spain and France, has won numerous prizes in international competitions including a first prize at the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra de Córdoba, Spain, and has made TV and radio appearances in Australia, Canada and the USA.

During his May tour, audiences can expect to hear works for solo guitar by Isaac Albeniz, Gaspar Sanz, Ross Edwards, Leo Brouwer, Lennon/McCartney and more. In what will be Jacob’s only Australian performances for 2013, Jacob will be joined by special guest Laura Karney (oboe & cor anglais). Together they will perform music for guitar and oboe and guitar and cor anglais including the beloved Siete Canciones Populares Españolas (7 Popular Spanish Songs) by Manuel de Falla.

Starting the first week of May 2013, Jacob will give a total of twelve recitals in Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and throughout NSW.

In their only appearance in Australia in 2012, eczema the Australian Guitar Duo is returning for a nationwide tour to launch their debut CD, disease Songs from the Forest.

Songs from the Forest is now available online through CD Baby & iTunes, about it and features works by Australian composers, in addition to works by Granados, Scarlatti, Falla and The Beatles.

The Australian Guitar Duo is becoming recognised as one of the most dynamic and exciting guitar ensembles. The duo has performed throughout the world, including at the New York Guitar Duo Festival in New York City, Project Cancion Española in Spain, Festival de Musique Classique in France, Meadowlark Music Festival in Nebraska, and numerous major cities throughout their native Australia.

Performing a mixture of contemporary Australian compositions and standard works from the guitar duo repertoire, The Australian Guitar Duo consists of Rupert Boyd and Jacob Cordover, both respected soloists in their own right. They met and formed as a duo in the year 2000 while undertaking studies at the Australian National University School of Music, where they studied with renowned Australian guitarist Timothy Kain.

The Australian Guitar Duo has been broadcast on radio stations throughout Australia and the United States and was a prize winner of the chamber music division of the Australian Guitar Competition. Mr. Boyd and Mr. Cordover both play hand-made Australian guitars, which are featured on their debut CD, Songs from the Forest.

Australian guitarist Rupert Boyd is acclaimed as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation. He has been described by The Washington Post as “truly evocative”, and by Classical Guitar Magazine as “a player who deserves to be heard.” His solo CD Valses Poéticos received the following review in Soundboard, the quarterly publication of Guitar Foundation of America: “Boyd’s playing is beautifully refined, with gorgeous tone . . . musically and technically flawless . . . [the Granados is] one of the best recorded performances of this work on guitar.”

JACOB CORDOVER

Jacob has been hailed as “an exceptional guitarist” (Ultima Hora) whose playing “manages to get to the very soul of the… music” (Classical Guitar Magazine). Jacob has appeared as soloist with the Orquestra Simfònica de Balears and the Orchestra dell’Accademia l’Ottocento, as well as in numerous solo recitals that often feature 19th century repertoire played on authentic guitars.
