Our Musicians Help Welcome Torah Bright & Our Olympians

Last Saturday, gold medallist Torah Bright and her fellow “locally raised” Winter Olympians, Jenny Owens, Ben Sim, Jono Brauer, Scott Kneller and Ramone Cooper were treated to a fantastic welcome home from Cooma. There was an unveiling of a special plaque at Apex Park, a very cool motorcade of vintage sports cars, and a Civic Reception in Centennial Park and at the Multi Function Centre. And our local musicians were there to make this event even better.

Christmas Café was an afternoon of live music performed by the students and teachers at Cooma School of Music. The performers played very confidently in the relaxed atmosphere of the “Music Café”.

“Café Music with a touch of Christmas Fun!”

Come and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea in our “Music Café”. Live music will be provided by students & teachers of Cooma School of Music.

The “Café Music” concept is a bit of an experiment, or variation on the theme of “student concert”. We decided to “play” this in the “key of relaxed”. The audience is seated at tables around the hall. They can listen to the music, read the Sunday papers, play a game of chess, cards, snakes and ladders, have a conversation, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea with bottomless cups of tea or coffee. The music students could perform in this more relaxed atmosphere.

The audience is not expected to stay for the whole afternoon. They can come and go as they please. We realise how busy everyone is right now!

The café opens at 3pm, Sunday 6th December at St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 138 Commissioner Street.

Please bring a plate of festive food to share and some games to play. Tea & coffee will be provided.

Prizes for the Best Table Decorations!

If you want to play, when you arrive, just choose the time you want to play and write your name next to that timeslot on the whiteboard in the Hall.

The Ruby Everett & Family Bushdance was a great success!

Wow what a fun night that was! We had a fantastic band of over 15 musicians. We also had wonderful special performances from the Cooma Harmony Chorus, Numeralla Fingerplunkers, Ned McPhie, Brodie Nossiter and Megan Williams. And thank you, Judith, Anna, Tina, Rowena, Kellie, Viki, Ross, Peter, Maxine, Dave, Rod, Paul and Lou for playing in our bush band. We’re also very grateful to all those helpers who so cheerfully helped with the set up, clean up, ticket selling, supper preparation and washing up! xox

The supper tables were also piled high with loads of wonderful food; so thanks to all those great cooks!

And very special thank you to Rev. Paul for donating the use of the Anglican Hall.

Also thank you Fran for the dance calling!

So, with everyone’s help we were able to raise $1,021.70 for Ruby Everett and her family… And, I think everyone had a fun night!

Café Music was a great success last Sunday afternoon (28th June). Over 30 students of Cooma School of Music entertained a large and appreciative audience. The “Café Music” concept was a bit of an experiment, or variation on the theme of “student concert”. We decided to “play” this in the “key of relaxed”. The audience was seated at tables around the hall. They could listen to the music, read the Sunday papers, play a game of chess, cards, snakes and ladders, have a conversation, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea with bottomless cups of tea or coffee. The music students could perform in this more relaxed atmosphere. The feedback we’ve received so far has been very positive. So Leslie and I, Judith and Adrian are delighted with the results. We would, however, welcome any suggestions as to how we may be able to improve on this concept. Thanks to all the wonderful cooks who produced so much lovely food (I’m back on my diet this week!). Thanks to the helpers who cleaned up the hall afterwards. Thanks to the lovely and supportive audience. And of course, thanks to the wonderful music students for giving up their Sunday afternoon and performing so well!

Nothing’s going to stop Darcy playing his guitar!

Where there's a will...

Darcy had a nasty cut to the tip of his right index finger. But a little cut wasn’t going to stop Darcy from coming to his lesson and playing his guitar. So with a little help from Mum he taped a guitar pick to his index finger so he could still play his classical guitar pieces. How’s that for determination and ingenuity?

Georgia’s new puppy!

Georgia brought along her new puppy, Missy to her guitar lesson today.

I think Missy is named after Georgia’s favourite singer, Missy Higgins.
