Evgeny Ukhanov began his piano studies at the age of seven. He came from the Ukraine to Australia on a scholarship in 1998 and completed his Bachelor of Music.

Evgeny has performed all around the world, has recorded solo and chamber music, has featured in the TV series “Prodigy” and this year he will be competing in the Top of the World International Piano Competition in Norway.

“Evgeny has performed in England, Romania, Italy, USA, France, Germany, Japan, Ukraine and Russia. He began his studies when he was seven years old in the Ukraine and gave his first performance at the age of nine. In 1997 he was a major prize winner in both the Second Horowitz International Pi-ano competition in Ukraine, and the International Piano competition in Sen-igalia, Italy. You are in for a treat when Evgeny comes to Cooma. The Cooma program will include Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Balakirev and Gershwin.” from Snowy Monaro Arts Council  Newsletter Feruary 2015.

Multicultural Community Festival 2015 – 15 March Cooma

This year’s festival is happening at Cooma Rotary Markets on Sunday 15 March 2015, medic from 10am to 3pm. Thanks to Cooma Rotary, Cooma Monaro Shire Council, Queanbeyan Multicultural Centre and last but not least M.A.G.I.C. – Multicultural Activity Group in Cooma!

COOMA MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL

Emily Ventura B.Mus – Our New Piano Teacher

Cooma School of Music has joined forces with The Hub Youth Centre and Cooma-Monaro Shire Council to make a new music competition especially for young musicians in Cooma.

It called  the Cooma Youth Music Awards.

This special event will an important part of National Youth Week (10-19 April)

This year’s inaugural Cooma Youth Music  Awards will be held at The Hub Youth Centre on Saturday 11th April at 2pm.

All styles of music are welcome – soloists, artificial bands, order vocalists.

The Prizes will be donated by  National Youth Week and Cooma School of Music.

  • Best Performance-Seniors ( 16 to 25 years of age) – (valued at $200)
  • Best Performance-Juniors  (12 to 15 years of age) – (valued at $100)
  • Special Judge’s Award (any age) – (valued $60)

Emily Ventura B.Mus – Piano Teacher

We would like to welcome a new piano teacher, view
Emily Ventura, to our faculty.

Emily has just graduated from the University of Newcastle Conservatorium. She majored in piano and was awarded a with a Bachelor of Music degree with Distinction. Her teacher there was Helen Smith.  Emily has also studied piano with Gabriella Pusner and Carl Schmidt.

Emily has been teaching piano for several years, with all levels and ages, and particularly enjoys seeing the level of satisfaction that her students gain from improving their music skill and playing pieces they enjoy.

Cooma School of Music now offers music tuition in piano, guitar, bass guitar, voice, violin, viola, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, French horn, recorder, harmonica and music theory and musicianship. All styles of music are catered for, from rock to classical.

This year will also bring lots of opportunities for musicians of all ages and abilities to perform music in many different events. Every Thursday, Cooma School of Music is hosting a Thursday Night Music Club at the Two Vaults Restaurant, 161 Sharp Street Cooma. This weekly open mic session is a fun and informal way for musicians to hone their skills and meet with other musicians. It runs between 7.30pm and 9.30pm every Thursday. It’s free and all are welcome; call Allan on 6452 6067 for more information.

There will also be lots of opportunities for musicians to compete in 2015.
