The Peter de Jager Piano Prize

This year’s Cooma Music Competition will have a new piano prize:

The Peter de Jager Piano Prize. (incudes $200 cash)

Peter de Jager lived in Cooma for a time and learnt the piano from his mother, medicine Helen, viagra dosage at Cooma School of Music. Peter has gone on to achieve great success in his music career. This year he won the International Chopin Piano Competition. On seeing Peter do so well at this competition Viv Minell, a local music lover and pianist, decided to honour Peter by naming this award after him. Viv also wanted inspire up and coming piano students to new heights.

Peter de Jager used to be just another little kid going to Cooma North Primary and now he is a world class concert pianist and composer. (Click here to read more about Peter de Jager)

The Cooma Music Competition will be held this year on Sunday the 18th of September.

Cooma Music Competition 2011 is now in it’s sixth year. This year’s competition will provide an opportunity for musicians of all ages and skills to perform and compete. We hope this competition will be as inclusive as possible. The competition will be open to all instruments and voice. Although the competition will be conducted by Cooma School of Music all amateur musicians are welcome to participate not just students of Cooma School of Music.

Prizes will include trophies and cash. Certificates of Participation will be awarded to all competitors.

The Peter de Jager Piano Prize includes $200 cash and is exclusively for piano students.

East Meets West

. Come on a musical journey that begins in Cooma and finishes in Tehran. Beginning with Don Banks, mind
an Australian composer, visit
then travelling through Europe with  music from Spain and Germany.Next stop is Armenia, discount RX
with a beautiful work by Khachaturian. We complete the concert with works by the great Persian composers, Alizadeh and Siavash Beizai.

.. This concert will combine the talents of Australian musicians and Persian musicians. Cooma will be represented by Judith Marriott, Leslie Spencer and Glenyss Allen. We are very fortunate to have the talents of two wonderful musicians Arya Bastaninezhad and Melika, who are visiting Cooma in preparation for an International Music festival in Tehran later this year, in which they will be performing these works with Judith.

Instruments featured will be clarinet ,bass clarinet, cello, piano , guitar ,flute, ney ( a very beautiful Persian flute) and voice.

It should be a wonderful evening as the common thread to all these compositions is their exquisite melodies…come and SWOON with us!!! It is guaranteed to life your spirits.

Cooma’s University of the Third Age (U3A) presents an afternoon of music appreciation by the Snowy Mountains Ensemble.

The programme includes music by: Purcell, resuscitation Handel, visit this site Holst, myocarditis Broadwater and more.

“Café Music with a touch of Christmas Fun!”

Come and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea in our “Music Café”.

Live music will be provided by students & teachers of Cooma School of Music.

The “Café Music” concept is a variation on the theme of “student concert”. We decided to “play” this in the “key of relaxed”. The audience is seated at tables around the hall. They can listen to the music, discount read the Saturday papers, play a game of chess, cards, snakes and ladders, have a conversation, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea with bottomless cups of tea or coffee. The music students will perform in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The audience is not expected to stay for the whole afternoon. They can come and go as they please. We realise how busy everyone is right now!

The café opens at 4pm, Saturday 18 December at St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 138 Commissioner Street.

Please bring a plate of festive food to share and some games to play. Tea & coffee will be provided free.

Young@Art 2011 was a Great Success!

This year’s Young@Art was a great success. Young local musicians produced a wonderful concert of which they should be very proud. The Snowy Mountains Arts Council presented this concert. The SMAC have recently purchased a brand new Kaiwai grand piano and the new piano was another “star of the show”. This was the first ever performance for the new piano. This really is a wonderful instrument and an enormous addition to the vibrant music culture of this region.

Open Day – SMAC New Piano Sunday 11 September

The Snowy Monaro Arts Council will be conducting an Open Day for their new grand piano.

The Open Day for playing the new SMAC piano will be Sunday 11th September.  The piano will be available between 2.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.  No bookings; first come, story first served.

Open Day at St Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, Commissioner Street, Cooma

 

Come and play the piano, or come and listen to others play it.  Enjoy a very informal afternoon.  No cost.

Pete Murphy just brought in this lovely new ukulele that he’s made. It has a wonderfully responsive solid spruce top and eye catching black-heart sassafras back and sides. He wants to keep this little beauty for himself.
