Evgeny Ukhanov began his piano studies at the age of seven. He came from the Ukraine to Australia on a scholarship in 1998 and completed his Bachelor of Music.

Evgeny has performed all around the world, has recorded solo and chamber music, has featured in the TV series “Prodigy” and this year he will be competing in the Top of the World International Piano Competition in Norway.

“Evgeny has performed in England, Romania, Italy, USA, France, Germany, Japan, Ukraine and Russia. He began his studies when he was seven years old in the Ukraine and gave his first performance at the age of nine. In 1997 he was a major prize winner in both the Second Horowitz International Pi-ano competition in Ukraine, and the International Piano competition in Sen-igalia, Italy. You are in for a treat when Evgeny comes to Cooma. The Cooma program will include Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Balakirev and Gershwin.” from Snowy Monaro Arts Council  Newsletter Feruary 2015.

Dream Lights Kosciuszko Festival 2013 – 23 to 24 February 2013

The festival celebrates the best of Aboriginal, epilepsy Australian, sales Irish and Polish cultures, ampoule inspired by the achievements of the explorer Sir Paul Strzelecki and the majesty of the mountain he named after General Kosciuszko, a renowned champion of equal rights and the liberty for humankind.

An action-packed weekend will feature:

  • a special guest appearance by the acclaimed and award-winning Afro- American pianist Roy Eaton, whose concert will be dedicated to the Ngarigo people, the traditional custodians of Mt Kosciuszko

  • piano recital by Krzysztof Malek

  • an historical Centenary Mass on Mt Kosciuszko, celebrated by Bishop Julian Porteous

  • and retransmitted at the Jindabyne Bowling & Sports Club; a stunning visual laser display over Lake Jindabyne on Saturday night

  • movie premiere “Polish Aboriginal Fraternity Flights over Mt Kosciuszko”

  • two Gala Concerts at the Strzelecki monument featuring:

Pierre Herrero has been importing quality Spanish Classical & Flamenco guitars into Australia for many years. Pierre has also been an ardent supporter of the classical guitar in Australia. Among many other activities, he has sponsored the Sydney Classical Society Summer School and the Melbourne based Alhambra Sadie Awards.

On Sunday 14 March, Pierre will be showcasing in an informal setting, a wonderful range of guitars for the members of the Canberra Classical Guitar Society, guitar students and  teachers as well as the general public.

finalist in the Australian Youth Classical Music Competition in 2012 will give a recital in Cooma on Sunday 3 March.

Nicholas, who comes from Sydney, began studying piano at the age of six. His extraordinary skills as a musician have earned him several scholarships and gained him recognition in many competitions. In 2012 he also took second place in the Australian National Piano Award, and prior to that he won his section in the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards. As a teenager he was the national winner of the Yamaha Australian Youth Piano Competition in 2007.

An accomplished performer, Nicholas has played with Symphony Orchestras all around Australia and has given solo recitals in Australia and New Zealand. His 3 March recital in Cooma is at 2:30pm in the Anglican Parish Hall on Commissioner Street, on the Snowy Monaro Arts Council’s own grand piano.

Tickets for the recital are available at The Fabric Salon and at the door before the concert.

About the festival

Over the Moonbah celebrates multiculturalism, neurologist harmony and history in the Snowy Mountains area through a series of colourful, contagion exciting events over two days.

The highlight of the festival will be a set of friendship flights over Moonbah and Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mainland mountain. Five pairs of Aboriginal and Polish Australians will take off into the sky, soaring over this beautiful part of Australia.

Other events include concerts, a film screening, the launch of a new publication, BBQs with Polish delights, art and craft displays, and more.

About Krzysztof Malek:

Krzysztof Malek is a young Polish pianist currently residing in Sydney, Australia. He has graduated with highest distinction for extraordinary artistic achievements from a special ‘Talents School’- the Z. Brzewski State Music High School in Warsaw where he studied with Professor Teresa Manasterska, president of the Polish division of EPTA- European Piano Teachers Association. Krzysztof later became her pupil at the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw where he studied until 2002. He then met and performed for legendary Professor Victor Makarov who had taken up a position as Head of Piano at The Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. A few months later Krzysztof was invited for full scholarship studies with the Professor. After several years due to tragic circumstances Professor Makarov was forced to stop teaching all his students and Krzysztof chose to continue his studies with another piano legend, Professor Lee Kum Sing at the Vancouver Academy of Music in Canada. He had also taken part in Masterclasses with some of the greatest pedagogues including Victor Merzhanov (Moscow Conservatory), Oxana Yablonskaya (Juilliard School), Vladimir Viardo (Moscow Conservatory), Alexey Orlovetzky (St Petersburg Conservatory), Christopher Elton (Royal Academy of Music, London) and several others.

Krzysztof is a prizewinner at a number of national and international competitions. He had started at an early age of 10 by winning his first national contest, which was soon followed by his debut with an orchestra. In 1997 he was a prizewinner at the Paderewski Competition, in 1999 he received Second Prize at the International Chopin Competition in Vilnius and in 2001 he was awarded First Prize at the International Bacewicz Competition in Lodz. In 2007 he received First Prize and Gold Medal at the Chopin Competition in Sydney.

Since his early successes in piano competitions, Krzysztof Malek has continued to travel and perform around the world. So far music has taken him to nearly twenty countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. He has made a number of archive recordings for radio and television in several countries. He has also played the main role of Frederic in a film about Chopin. In 2007 his first DVD featuring Grieg Piano Concerto was released internationally.

In recognition of his achievements he was awarded the prestigious prize-scholarship by the Polish Ministry of Culture.

In 2008 Krzysztof received a Distinguished Talent Permanent Residency of Australia.

The annual event K’Ozzie Fest will be held from Friday 19 to Monday 22 March this year.

One of the main focuses of this year’s event is to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Polish composer, melanoma

one of the great masters of the Romantic period. The occasion will be marked by presentations of his music during the four-day festival.

Krzysztof (Chris) Malek, will return to perform, with recitals planned for Jindabyne and for Cooma. Chris began his musical career studying at the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, before undertaking further studies in Canada and Australia. He has performed in almost 20 countries and has made numerous recordings for radio, television and film worldwide – including playing the role of Chopin himself in a motion picture.

Thanks to Australia’s Distinguished Talent Permanent Residency program, Chris has now settled in Australia and will honour the Snowy Mountains by sharing his talents again.

The special closing night performance, held in conjunction with Snowy Monaro Arts Council, will be at 7pm, Monday 22 March, at the Anglican Parish Hall in Cooma. An exhibition of art and photography will be on display at the recital venue, as well. Following the recital, the audience is encouraged to meet the artist himself over wine and nibbles. Apart from great music, atmosphere and company, this will be a wonderful opportunity to sample the flavours of a local drop – ‘Kosciusko Wines’ from Tumbarumba are generously supplying the wines.

About Krzysztof Malek:

Krzysztof Malek is a young Polish pianist currently residing in Sydney, Australia. He has graduated with highest distinction for extraordinary artistic achievements from a special ‘Talents School’- the Z. Brzewski State Music High School in Warsaw where he studied with Professor Teresa Manasterska, president of the Polish division of EPTA- European Piano Teachers Association. Krzysztof later became her pupil at the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw where he studied until 2002. He then met and performed for legendary Professor Victor Makarov who had taken up a position as Head of Piano at The Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. A few months later Krzysztof was invited for full scholarship studies with the Professor. After several years due to tragic circumstances Professor Makarov was forced to stop teaching all his students and Krzysztof chose to continue his studies with another piano legend, Professor Lee Kum Sing at the Vancouver Academy of Music in Canada. He had also taken part in Masterclasses with some of the greatest pedagogues including Victor Merzhanov (Moscow Conservatory), Oxana Yablonskaya (Juilliard School), Vladimir Viardo (Moscow Conservatory), Alexey Orlovetzky (St Petersburg Conservatory), Christopher Elton (Royal Academy of Music, London) and several others.

Krzysztof is a prizewinner at a number of national and international competitions. He had started at an early age of 10 by winning his first national contest, which was soon followed by his debut with an orchestra. In 1997 he was a prizewinner at the Paderewski Competition, in 1999 he received Second Prize at the International Chopin Competition in Vilnius and in 2001 he was awarded First Prize at the International Bacewicz Competition in Lodz. In 2007 he received First Prize and Gold Medal at the Chopin Competition in Sydney.

Since his early successes in piano competitions, Krzysztof Malek has continued to travel and perform around the world. So far music has taken him to nearly twenty countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. He has made a number of archive recordings for radio and television in several countries. He has also played the main role of Frederic in a film about Chopin. In 2007 his first DVD featuring Grieg Piano Concerto was released internationally.

In recognition of his achievements he was awarded the prestigious prize-scholarship by the Polish Ministry of Culture.

In 2008 Krzysztof received a Distinguished Talent Permanent Residency of Australia.
