Brew Guitar Duo new CD “Songs & Dances” $25

Brew Guitar Duo_Songs & Dances_CDThe new CD “Songs & Dances” by the Brew Guitar Duo is now available.

Bradley Kunda and Matthew Withers are based in Canberra where they have been studying guitar for many years with Tim Kain. They gave a stellar performance in Cooma on Sunday 15 November. This concert was part of their “Songs & Dances Tour”. What a great concert! These guys put the fun back into classical music. The audience loved the rapport between these awesomely gifted young players. It was a varied and entertaining programme with music from Cuba, diabetes and pregnancy Venezuela, Spain and France, as well as contemporary Australian composers, Phillip Houghton and Richard Charlton. There was even a  great jazz standard ” Mr Sandman”, as well as some great arrangements of the Ralph McTell’s “Streets of London” and the Beatles’ song “The Fool on the Hill”.

Bradley and Matthew played together with wonderful precision and phrasing. There are many delightful melodies, flashes of technical brilliance, as well as subtle, delicate and beautiful musical gems. You also feel that these guitarists are having a lot of fun playing together.

Samples of the new CD may be heard on their website as well as information about their tour dates:

John Couch’s CD “Desdemona’s Song” now available $25

cafe-music1Café Music was a great success last Sunday afternoon (28th June). Over 30  students of Cooma School of Music entertained a large and appreciative audience. The “Café Music” concept was a bit of an experiment, viagra here or variation on the theme of “student concert”. We decided to “play” this in the “key of relaxed”. The audience was seated at tables around the hall. They could listen to the music, more about read the Sunday papers, play a game of chess, cards, snakes and ladders, have a conversation, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea with bottomless cups of tea or coffee. The music students could perform in this more relaxed atmosphere. The  feedback we’ve received so far has been very positive.  So Leslie and I, Judith and Adrian are delighted with the results. We would, however, welcome any suggestions as to how we may be able to improve on this concept. Thanks to all the wonderful cooks who produced so much lovely food (I’m back on my diet this week!). Thanks to the helpers who cleaned up the hall afterwards. Thanks to the lovely and supportive audience. And of course, thanks to the wonderful music students for giving up their Sunday afternoon and performing so well!

Minh Le Hoang's New CD "The Fall of Birds" now available ($25)

I had the privilege of attending Minh Le Hoang’s solo classical guitar concert and launch of his new CD “The Fall of Birds” last Friday March 6th at the Wesley Music Centre. This was one of the best classical guitar concerts I’ve ever attended. The playing was not only virtuostic but the level of emotional intensity was extraordinary. The CD is a delight and I can heartily recommend it to any lovers of the guitar.
