This year’s seventh annual  Cooma Music Competition is shaping up to be a truly wonderful event for Cooma, the Monaro and the Snowies. The judges for classical this year will include our local musical maestros, Robert Shearer and Rodney Clancy, as well as internationally renowned musical theatre, dance and opera director and librettist, Tessa Bremner. Tessa will also be joined by her husband, Dr Ian Macdonald, who is also an outstanding musical director, composer, theatre set designer and percussionist. The popular music section will be judged by Matt Charlesworth and Alysha Kramer from the wonderful local duo, Black Coffee. http://youtu.be/hAp0GY57LjI
After the success of last year’s Cooma Music Competition it has been decided to book the St Paul’s Parish hall for the extra day, that is, Saturday the 1st September. However, we hope to conduct most of the heats on the Sunday (2nd September) in the afternoon. The evening Finals Concert will still be on the Sunday at 7 pm. We are mindful that many young musicians are involved in Saturday morning sports so we will be trying our best to accommodate all our contestants.
All contestants in this year’s competition will receive a certificate. There will be a medal for first place in each of the solo heats and a trophy for the first place in each of the group and ensemble heats. NSW, VIC, SA, ACT
Australia’s much-loved Brew Guitar Duo celebrates 10 years in 2012 with 10 concerts
across the country. The duo will showcase works from its landmark album Landscape:
Australian Guitar Duets in spectacular venues including the National Gallery of Australia
in Canberra and Peter Lehmann’s Winery in the Barossa Valley.
Now an established part of the Australian guitar scene, the young and dynamic Brew Guitar Duo
has performed widely throughout the country. Performance highlights include numerous national
broadcasts on ABC Classic FM and concerts for guitar societies and international festivals in
Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Darwin and Brisbane, as well as in many regional
centres. Brew guitarists Bradley Kunda and Matthew Withers are based in Canberra, where they
are also members of Australia’s premier guitar quartet Guitar Trek.
The duo’s most recent album Landscape: Australian Guitar Duets was ABC Limelight Magazine’s
“featured recording†in March 2011, where it scored a 4.5/5 star rating. The album has also been
given a rave review in the internationally-distributed Classical Guitar Magazine (UK). Their
recordings are regularly heard on ABC Classic FM, most recently in the weeklong series On the
Verandah in November 2011.
This 10th Anniversary Tour will see Brew bring its colourful mix of exciting new Australian music
and popular Spanish favourites to various venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide,
Albury, Shepparton and Cooma (details overleaf).
