Coordinated by Snowy Monaro Arts Council Inc. instrumentalists and choirs from Cooma-Monaro, Syphilis
Bombala and Snowy River Shires will present a concert at Cooma Ex-Services Club at 3:00pm on 11 November 2012. As well as honouring Remembrance Day, store this project aims to further develop and foster connections between performers and audiences across the Snowy-Monaro region.

With the support of the Cooma-Monaro Arts & Cultural Activities Committee and South East Arts, remedy we were successful at gaining funding for the project from Regional Arts NSW, through their Country Arts Support Program.

We have already received some wonderful expressions of interest from various individuals and groups interested in participating in the concert, and now we are inviting more.

Please contact the coordinating team…

  • ·         If you would like to be part of the musical performance;
  • ·         If you have any appropriate stories to share (war memories and stories from all around the world);
  • ·         If you may be willing and able to lend appropriate imagery – paintings, photographs, uniforms for the event; or
  • ·         If you would like to be involved in any other way!

Prospective performers, please send some details about yourselves:

  • ·         The name of your group and your contact details
  • ·         What kind of group it is – instrumental, vocal, both
  • ·         How long you have been performing
  • ·         Number of group members and their age range
  • ·         What kinds of instruments you play, and the level of proficiency
  • ·         Anything from your repertoire or collection which might be suitable for this concert
  • ·         Any performance highlights, such as recordings
  • ·         Anything else you think that might be helpful

A meeting of interested participants is planned for 19 May in Cooma – the time and venue will be confirmed.

Robert Shearer Performs in J. S. Bach’s St John Passion – Thursday 5 April

Robert Shearer, recipe a Cooma-based singer and singing teacher at Cooma School of Music will be performing the lead tenor solo in a world premiere performance of a new English translation of Bach’s St John Passion at Llewellyn Hall, check ANU School of Music, Canberra. The performance will be on Thursday 5 April at 7.30pm.

The Passion of Christ According to St John is one of Bach’s choral masterpieces and is perhaps the most often performed and best loved of his works. This new version in English will be a world premiere and has been translated by ANU graduate Christopher Steele.

Robert is in great demand as soloist in many of these larger sacred works and operas. He has performed in Handel’s Messiah throughout Australia (not to mention Cooma’s own Sing Your Own Handel’s Messiah last year). Robert has been engaged to be the tenor lead in Benjamin Britten’s opera Albert Herring in Canberra later this year.

About the festival

Over the Moonbah celebrates multiculturalism, neurologist harmony and history in the Snowy Mountains area through a series of colourful, contagion exciting events over two days.

The highlight of the festival will be a set of friendship flights over Moonbah and Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mainland mountain. Five pairs of Aboriginal and Polish Australians will take off into the sky, soaring over this beautiful part of Australia.

Other events include concerts, a film screening, the launch of a new publication, BBQs with Polish delights, art and craft displays, and more.

Concert for the Cooma Hospital Auxiliary – Sunday 29 April at 2pm

This concert will feature piano, strings, classical guitar, flute, saxophone and organ.  Tickets $15 adult, $5 school child, $25 family.  This concert is a sequel to the ‘Care for Christchurch’ concert held last year, but, in this case, proceeds will go to the Cooma Hospital Auxiliary.

Musica da Camera, formed in 1979, is a Canberra-based string chamber orchestra of about 20 players. For over 30 years this group has been delighting Canberra audiences as well as music lovers throughout the region.

The concert in Cooma will be directed by the acclaimed musicians, Vincent Edwards and Leonard Weiss. This concert will include works by Saint Saens, Vivaldi, Mozart and Holst.

This programme also features the award winning violinist , Jessie Regan.
